Metal Braces
Stainless Steel braces are the most popular braces worn by children and can also be chosen by adults.
Many people have painful memories of the big clunky metal braces from the past. Luckily, metal braces have developed and improved. Modern braces are smaller and more comfortable than ever before with low profiles and strong adhesives.
Advantages of metal braces
- Modern, smaller braces enhance comfort and aesthetics.
- High bond strength provides firm, corrective forces.
- Unique natural curvature provides maximum contact and comfort.
- Fixed metal braces are one of the most effective and commonly used ways to treat a wide variety of orthodontic problems and offer predictable and successful results.
- Children can enjoy having coloured elastics to tie in the archwires, which they can change during treatment.
How are metal braces fitted?
- At your fitting appointment, your clinician will fit the brackets to your teeth by bonding each bracket to each tooth.
- The cement is then set by an ultra-violet light.
- We will then connect them using an archwire to create the desired tension on the teeth.
- The initial wire is a soft and flexible nickel titanium wire and is tied to the brackets with plain or coloured elastics.
- Once your braces are fitted, we will continue seeing you about every 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your specific needs. During these appointments, we will be adjusting the braces and wires. We will also monitor the overall health of your teeth and gums, making sure you will have a beautiful and healthy smile.
