All children under 18 years will be assessed free of charge under the NHS and if eligible under strict government guidelines, they will be placed on a treatment waiting list.
If your child is not eligible for NHS orthodontic treatment or does not want to be added to our waiting list there is an independent option available.
All adults over the age of 18 years will be assessed for a minimal fee and given a written report detailing treatment options and costs.
Having a brace fitted is a painless procedure. It is likely to ache for a couple of days following fitting, normal painkillers can help this. Most problems subside within 48 hours.
It is very important to visit your own dentist and hygienist regularly throughout treatment as they still need to monitor the health of your teeth and gums.
Yes, teeth will try to move back to their original position once the braces have been removed so it is crucial that you wear the retainers that you will be provided with. In nearly all cases we also fit a bonded retainer which is fixed permanently to the back of your upper and lower front 6 teeth.
You will be treated by one of our specialist orthodontists who are all on the specialist list registered by the General Dental Council and who all have a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Children should be screened between the ages of 9 to 10 years and are usually referred by their general dentist for an initial consultation although it may be slightly earlier in exceptional circumstances.
Adult orthodontics tends to take longer than in children and can vary from 18 to 24 months depending on the individual, but of course the results will stay with you for life!
Fixed braces are generally adjusted every 6 to 8 weeks and it is very important that you attend each appointment.
Yes you will need to change your diet to avoid damaging your brace. If your brace breaks your treatment time will increase. You will need to avoid all hard or chewy foods for the duration of your treatment. You should also avoid sugary foods, fizzy drinks and snacking between meals.
